Writing, Yeah you Might As Well

It has struck me recently how little I have been writing lately, and how much I am forcing it.  This brings me to want to go ahead and confront this, publicly on the blog here.

Never force writing.  The problem is, that a lot of people when they run out of an idea, they suddenly start remembering that stupid two word phrase, Writer's Block.  Really?  Come on people.  There is no such thing as writer's block.  There is such a thing as procrastination, or not feeling like doing something.  Instead of claiming that you have writer's block, why don't you just go ahead and admit that, you don't feel like writing at the present time.

About two weeks, or three weeks ago, I was at the bar, writing, as usual, but I realized what was upsetting me.  I wasn't writing what I really wanted to write.  I wanted to continue work on a screenplay in which the first act is done.  But, I couldn't think of any more ideas.  Was this writer's block, as so many people see it?  No!  I ended up just writing out some other ideas, or writing an essay.  The fact is, that one needs to keep himself writing to be able to continue the practice of writing.  So what you didn't get to write what you really wanted to write on a specific night, and instead wrote about what happened at the grocery earlier, or inked out a few dick and fart jokes, that's perfectly fine.  There is no part in writing in which you will digress into becoming a worse writer for not writing what was specific to your mind.

Practice makes perfect.
